2017
A year marked by the circular economy
In January, Herambiente, together with Aligroup Srl, signed the acquisition of Treviso-based Aliplast, an outstanding Italian company in the collection, recycling and regeneration of plastic waste. With this agreement, the Group consolidated its leading position in alignment with the principles of the circular economy, where waste is converted into resources.
In March, Hera began the construction of a plant in Sant’Agata Bolognese, which, when fully operational, will be able to produce 20,000 tons of high-quality natural fertiliser and 7.5 million cubic metres of biomethane – a 100% renewable fuel – each year.
For the opening of the G7 Environmental meeting in Bologna, from 5 to 12 June, Hera organised a conference on the circular economy, with Ellen MacArthur as guest of honour. In October, the Ellen McArthur Foundation, the world’s first and most active organisation in this sector, included the Hera Group in its prestigious international programme CE100, which brings together leading companies that distinguish themselves for their commitment to the transition towards a circular economy.
In October, Hera inaugurated its new cogeneration plant in Bologna, the result of a €17 million investment, which can supply electricity and hot water to 8,000 homes, allowing a reduction in CO₂ emissions and ensuring greater energy reliability and availability.
